Psalms 119 5

PSALMS 119:5

O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!

Here in this verse I hear David’s heart cry. He knows that God has commanded us to keep his commandments. He knows that he has not done this, and his heart is for God to direct him to keep them. He has a love for God’s word and God’s precepts and statutes. We can see this undeniably throughout psalms 119. He longs to keep them for he loves God. When he does not keep them he is grieved deeply (Psalms 51:10).

David’s desire here has been answered to us that are in Christ. David did not have the Holy Spirit indwelling him like we do (1 Cor 6:19). He was not made a new creature like we are (2 cor 5:17). So his prayer and his desire have been answered for us in Christ. We have the Holy Ghost who will direct our path (John 14:26), and chastise and corrects us if we fall off the path of righteousness ( Heb 12:5-11).

Today we have that direction in the Holy Spirit. But we still need to prayerfully seek God and ask him to guide us for His will in our lives. To gives us the boldness to proclaim His word and to live it.

We have to examine our lives to His word and repent when we are wrong and he will give us the power to live it through His grace that is in our lives.

2 Cor 13:5

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

1 Cor 11:27-32

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

We are commanded to examine ourselves, to judge ourselves, and in doing this we will find where we error. Then God’s grace will help us to get back on track and strengthen us to live for Him, turning from our error. This is why it is so important for us as followers of the Most High God, to read and study His word daily.

With the Holy Ghost in our lives, and we being His temple, we now have the direction we need to keep the statutes of God. God has answered David’s desire through Christ and His crucifixion. This is what David wanted to see in his life, and we now have it.  Jesus Christ gave us the Holy Spirit just for that purpose. Praise God in the Highest.

John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

PSALMS 119:4

PSALMS 119:4

Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.

This verse would seem not to fit in most people’s Christianity today. What we would hear from most people are Satan’s word’s echoing in our thoughts “Yea, hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Gen 3:1) What I mean by this is that we hear the same whispers but a little differently today, something like “we are not under the law but grace”, and “we do not have to have works because we are saved by grace”.

Satan plays the same old games, but he words things a little differently; he knows man’s pride and weaknesses, and wants to exploit them. There is nowhere in the bible that tells us to throw out God’s commands for our lives because we are under grace. It is quite the opposite as you will see in following quotes.

Matt 28:19-20

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

-It is simple we are to observe whatever Jesus commanded us to do.

John 14:15

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

– Because we love God we love Jesus. Because we love Jesus we keep his commandments. Psalms 119:4 says to do it diligently. This means with all our heart and soul and mind. Grace has never told us we can live ungodly and have the right to forsake God’s commands.

1 John 5:3

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

-We are to keep God’s commandments. Now if you notice all these verses are new testament. I left the Old Testament out because people would argue that it is Old Testament. We also have to realize John told us that God’s commandments are not grievous. They are not hard. The love of God propels us to follow his commands and gives us the strength to keep them.

Titus 2:11-12

 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

– Here we find that the very grace people say they are under, teaches us to deny ungodliness, and worldly lusts. That we are to live soberly righteously and godly today in this world we are in. If we do not have this grace teaching us then we do not have the grace that brought us salvation.

In conclusion what we have to do is reject the modern day thinking that because we are under grace and not the law that we do not have to obey God’s commands diligently. We need to remove from our ears the voice of Satan saying “Hath God said” and rebuke him. Embracing the bible and conforming our lives to it and its commands to live Godly in this present day.

So in response to Satan asking us, “Hath God said”, we are to respond with “yes God has said “Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.”” Amen.

Please respond with added comments, even disagreements. Thanks and God bless.

Psalms 119:3

Psalms 119:3

They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways

They- the ones who are blessed. God’s people. They do no iniquity. God’s people do not live in iniquity, they do not live in Sin. We can not call ourselves Christian if we enjoy and do the very things that crucified our savior to the cross. The new testament puts it this way.

1 John 1:6-7 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin.

The key words here is WALK. Psalms say “they walk in HIS WAYS” walking in darkness is walking in our own ways wants and desires, walking in sin, pride and rebellion. We can not do this and be called Christians. We can not make a God in our image and call him the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. If we do we are walking in Darkness. We are not to do what is right in our own eyes but we are to walk in HIS ways.

So what is HIS ways? Well His ways are laid out clearly in the bible. We need to follow His commands in the bible. For some unknown reason that I can not understand, a lot of professing Christians say we are not under the law but grace, and in saying this they throw out the commands of Jesus and think they can live the way they want because God’s grace covers them. When has the grace of God ever told us as Christians we do not have to keep Jesus commandments?  I can not find this belief  in the bible. What I do find are scriptures like this.

1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work a reprobate.

If we believe we do not have to follow Jesus Commandments how then can we be saved. If we deny God in our works living for ourselves, how can we be saved? If we live this way we need to repent. God is not our servant doing what we want Him to do, but we are His servant and we are to bring Him and His son glory through our lives. We must never forget who is the master and  who is the servant. There is a doctrine out there that tells us we can command God, he must answer our prayers the way we want and only good will be in our lives. But there is a call the church needs. We being Christians and serving God are called to suffer for His sake.

Philippians 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake.

Our lives are not our own, our lives are His, and he can do with it as he pleases. We need to submit to His word, submit to each other and live for God daily, in our actions at work, at school, and especially at home when no one is watching. I do want to mention one thing. Walking means a life style. We may make mistakes along the path and that’s why Jesus tells us when this happens to repent and ask God to forgive us, not to continue in that sin but to change. We cannot be condemned when we mess up but turn to God and learn from our mistakes and Failures giving God the glory in every aspect of our walk. We are HIS children.

God bless and please comment.

Psalms 119:2

Ps 119:2

Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

Blessed are the ones that keep his testimonies. We are blessed if we keep His commandments and testimonies. We can not use the Word of God for our own agenda. We need to obey the word in all aspects. Keeping the word of God is obeying the Word of God.

The other condition to be blessed is to seek God with our whole heart. Not only partially. Not only when we feel the need. Not only when we need something from Him, but with our whole heart and all of our desires. We need to seek all of Him. We need to not just seek the things or blessing we need or want from God. Seeking all of him consists of seeking His mercy, His grace, His holiness, His enlightening truth, His justice, His goodness, everything about God. And then we must obey and bring our lives into line with the character of God.

Seeking God with our whole heart, does not mean that every thought or action has to be focused on Him. This would be impossible and bring us into a bondage of always second guessing our actions. But seeking God with our whole heart can mean that we do it without hypocrisy, or lukewarmly, or laziness. It means that wee seek Him daily, that he is the most important thing in our life. That we meet with Him daily, that we take time to commune with Him, That we enjoy His presence and His word. We look forward to meeting with Him.

If we do not meet with God every day, and we do not read His word every day, then we are lukewarm. That would be like me spending time with my wife or kids only once in a while and in the real world if I did that I would be jeopardizing my relationship with them. If we say we love God then we would be spending time with Him.

I remember many times when I will be taking a walk or driving and see something like the stars on a clear night. There was way too many to count and it brought to my mind the majesty and power and might of God. I could do nothing but Praise Him. We may not have our minds on God every minute of the day, but He and His word will pop up in our minds throughout the day  as things trigger our minds to remember him. This is called a relationship. It is not a relationship if we only think of God when we want something or when we want Him to fix something. It is a relationship because we love Him and want to be with Him and in His presence..

May God richly bless you all who read this. Please leave comments if you have any God bless.

Psalms 119:1

PSALMS 119

Psalms 119 is one of my favorate psalms if not the most favorate of mine. It is loaded with God’s word, His character, His commands, His wisdom. I can read it over and over and every time get something new. I think every christian should look it up and read it and meditate on it. Yes it is old testiment but we can take the same principles from it and apply it to our lives now. One way I do this, is when the word “Law” comes up I replace it with  “Word”.  So lets look at Palms 119. Please leave comments on your thoughts of the verses. I would enjoy other peoples perspective.

Psalms 119:1

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.

            – Blessed:Greek word ‘esher means happiness blessedness.

-So Happy are the undefiled. Happy are the ones who have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb. The ones who are in the way. This means the ones that are on the path or road of God. We are on His path and not our own path.

-Happy are the ones who walk in the Word of the Lord. We are not only hearers but we are doers. We do not just read the word and pull the good scriptures out, or the ones we want to believe. But we take the whole council of God. We conform our lives to the scriptures and DO NOT conform the scriptures to our lives. We walk as the Word of God tells us to walk. We talk the way the word of God tells us to talk. We make no excuses for our short comings, but repent and turn from the path that disagrees with the word of God. Walking in the Word is walking the path that the word has set for us to go. This path never changes. Our culture may change, society may change, people’s belief system may change, but the word of God and the path we are to walk will never changes. It was the same 200 years ago as it is  today. It was the same 2000 years ago as it is today. We need to fight against the world views on what right and wrong is. The bible warns us with this scripture.

Isaiah 5:20

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light and, light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

-Do we not have this kind of thinking even in the church today. What was once sin is now not sin. What once was the word of God is now legalism or legalistic. What once was warning a brother or sister of sin is now judging. There are many many examples into days Christianity that fit this scripture. We as followers of the most high God need to go back to His word, and walk in it, and walk His way, no matter what the culture, or the world tells us. We need to make a stand. We need to not defile ourselves in the pollution of the world. We need to saturate our minds with the word of God. It is the only way to defend against the ideals, ways and suggestions of the world, that try to sway us from God. Without God’s word we have no weapon. The enemy wants to take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God away from us. Lets not let that happen and put on the whole armor of God, and step into the fight that God prepared us for. The enemy is defeated and Christ is the Victor. Praise God and God bless.
