I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.
Here we see that David tells us he will praise God with an uprightness of heart. We can not praise God when we are living for ourselves. We can not praise God when we live in a lifestyle of sin, We can not praise God when we are disobeying His commands. Yes we can stand and lift our hands and sing songs and look like we are praising him on the outside, and even deceive ourselves into thinking all is good with us and God. But God does not accept praise from a disobedient person. he requires obedience from his children, and the sacrifice of praise is nothing without obedience to His word.
And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
My brothers, these are new testament scriptures, who has deceived the church into thinking we do not have to obey the word of God? Who has deceived the church and teaches that God’s grace covers you and allows you to live in sin just because you confessed him as Lord. We need to obey God’s commands, and do His will not our own will. The enemy has invaded the Christian camp with propaganda and doctrine of devils. If this is the way we are living we need to repent. If we walk in darkness or sin and go to church, calling ourselves Christians and claiming we are saved, we need to realize we are not. Jesus himself will say depart from me you worker of iniquity. Does this mean we are perfect. No, but it means we walk on a path of holiness repenting if we stumble. And when we learn the true Gospel of Jesus Christ through his word, then we can truly praise him.
David said he will praise God WHEN he learned god’s righteous judgements. We can take that over to the new testament by saying we will Praise God, when we learn His word. When we learn about who God is, and obey the truths of it. Then and only then can we praise God with an uprightness of heart, knowing that the blood of Jesus as cleansed our sins, and we stand right before Him, not of our own efforts but because of what Jesus did.
As we learned from verse six, we obey God’s commands because we love him, because he saved us. If we do not follow His commands and our lives are not a lifestyle of holiness then we can conclude we are not saved and praising God in this state means nothing to Him. We need to repent and give our lives to him, for once we come to the foot of the cross our lives are no longer ours.
1 Cor 6:19-20
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
So we learn from scripture that we are not our own, we must peruse holiness or we will not see the Lord, if we are not obeying God’s commands he will tell us to depart. These are scary scary verses, this is why when we are right with God, perusing him, obeying His word, and studying His word we can lift our hands to heaven and give praise to our Might God, who lives forever and ever.
Have a blessed day, and remember, do not entertain yourselves with the very thing that crucified our savior to the cross. God bless.
