Gods transforming Word Ps 119:15

Ps 119:15
I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
KJV

I will meditate. This is a very important concept. The psalmist is telling us he, “meditates in thy precepts”. Do we meditate in God’s holy Word or do we just read it? I know some Christians that only read their bible at church during the sermon, if that. The key to having a fruit filled life, and a life of victory, is given here in this simple verse. Do you fight and struggle with sin? Do you hear that sin is not to have hold of a christian, but you keep falling into it? Well one reason is you are not meditating in God’s word. You might say ” oh no I read the bible, I study it”. Well reading the bible like a newspaper will do nothing for you. You need to meditate on it. How long do people stay in one book? Do you read each verse one by on? Do you mull that verse over, and over, thinking to see if your life conforms to it. If it does not do you then spend time in prayer with repentance, and seek God, so your life will be changed?

Rom 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
KJV

When we meditate on His word, it will transform us. We will start to walk as the bible tells us to walk. We will continue to be transform until the day we die, becoming more and more like Jesus.

The problem in today’s culture would be, most people spend their time on entertainment. Watching TV, listening to worldly songs, hanging out with unsaved people (not saying not to spend time with them, but not being best friends either) and acting like them. We wonder why the church looks like the world. We wonder why people are not getting saved. Can I suggest that in a lot of cases the world does not see a difference between them and us except we go to church?

Before I was saved in 1994 I had friends that were “Christians”. They went to the bars with me, they entertained themselves in the occult with me, all the while going to church. I liked them. They did not preach to me or tell me I was wrong. They were cool. But then I started to meet these other Christians, that lived holy, preached to me, were not hypocrites. I hated them and wanted to beat them up,  I insulted them, made fun of them. They brought out a hatred in me I did not know I had, until the day I gave my Life to Jesus and repented of my sins, and accepted the sacrifice He did on the cross for me, so I would not suffer the wrath of God myself.

Brothers and sisters, the only way to transform your life, is to reject the pleasures the world offers you. Just like Moses rejected the pleasures of Egypt. We must do the same. Search out Gods word, apply it to our lives.

Once we have done that, then we must walk in the second part of the verse. “Have respect unto thy ways”. This means we must be a doer of the word, to walk in God’s ways, and not just a hearer or a reader. We must take into practice what the word says.

I remember when I was a new Christian, I could not forgive this one guy I knew. He did something to me that just hurt me, and I could not forgive Him. A friend came to me and explained I had to forgive him. I would complain, and say ” you do not know what he has done to me”. Then his answer to that pierced my heart. He did not spout off a scripture saying ” If you do not forgive others, I will not for give you”. No what he did was worse. He looked at me and then started to explain how I sinned against a Holy God all my life. That I rejected Him, and constantly put Him to shame, and cursed Him. He continued to explain that no one on this earth has ever hurt me like I hurt God. And while I was an enemy of God, he had all the right to crush me to dust, and slay me were I stood, He chose not to do that. He chose instead to step in my spot and take all the punishment and wrath for Himself. Now if he did that for me, how can I in good conscience not forgive another.

If we truly Love God, and we are children of God, then we will meditate in His Word and walk the way His word tells us to. This is the Narrow road that leads to life. Do not take the wide road that leads to death. That road is an easy road, doing what you want, and living how you want to live all the while saying and confessing you are a christian, but your fruit is not from a good tree.

God Bless

God’s Word is a treasure Psalms 119:14

Ps 119:14
I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.
KJV

Is it not great to be able to rejoice in God’s word? As a christian His word should be our joy. It is a treasure to be mined. If we are bored with God’s word, or we hardly read it, then we must examine ourselves, and ask the question why?

There are many reasons to rejoice in it.

  1.   It is the source of all truth. God’s word does not lie. It is an anchor that will always keep you in one spot, which is God’s will. It will correct us, it guides us, it does not flip flop in it’s meanings. It defines what good is and what evil is. It is always true. Every man can lie but God and His word is forever true. This is something that we can truly rejoice in, as we will always have somewhere to turn to in times of trouble, or times of confusion, or hurt,  and it will always show us the true path to take. It exposes the large gate that leads to destruction, and lights up the narrow gate that leads to life.
  2. It shows us how Jesus Christ has saved us. The devil or his minions can whisper lies to our ears, or men/women on this earth can persecute us with doubt or unbelief, but we can cling to His Word, knowing it is truth and does not lie. Reenforcing our salvation in Jesus Christ.
  3. It reveals to us the character of God. How he thinks and acts. It shows us His likes and dislikes. We do not serve a god of mystery, but a God of Love, who reveals Himself to us through His Word.
  4. It lights the path that we are to walk. It is living and active, and it changes our lives, and conforms us more into the image of God. If you truly read His word, and apply it to your life, watered with repentance, then you will constantly grow and become more like Christ. We will walk more like Christ, act more like Christ, and continually to be transformed more and more, day by day, till we meet our Jesus Christr in person on that great and glorious day to come.

The reason why the psalmist compares his rejoicing to riches would be because he loves God so much, his joy is constantly for God. Have you ever seen someone on TV winning a million dollars or large some of money. They jump up and down excited yelling and screaming. And later in life they get a gleam of excitement in their eye when they repeat the story. Or have you ever seen a child on Christmas opening their present and they are very excited about what they received? When you are truly in God’s word this is the kind of excitement you receive when you dig and dig and search His word to find the answer you need and God gives you a revelation of the answer. The main difference between this and riches, would be your joy would stay and not leave you. It is a continuous joy in your life that His word brings you. Remember His word is alive and active and working in you. We serve a living God. Not a God of our creation, that never answers. We serve a Living God, the only true God, who conforms our lives into the image of His son Jesus Christ.

Now I implore you, go and read His word, spend time in it every day, mine it, and watch it transform you from the inside out!!!!!!

Keeping from Sin Psalms 119:11

Ps 119:11
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
KJV

We need to remember verse 10. The psalmist asked God to help him not wander from God’s commandments. This I find to be a very Good prayer. We know God will accomplish this thing we ask. Now the problem that I find, is that if we stop there, then things most likely will not happen and we will wander away. After praying that prayer what we need to do is exactly what the psalmist proclaimed. “Thy word have I hid in mine heart”

Have you been wondering why you stray away from God. Have you wondered why it seems to feel so hard to not sin, or to get lead astray by temptation so easily. Have you wondered why depression takes over, and or you just have no will to serve God, but yet you desire to. If this is you, then I suspect you do not hide God’s word in your heart. This verse tells us how important the word of God is to a Christians life. If you take away the word, then you have taken away your sword, and you will lose every fight that comes against you.

This verse tells us that the psalmist has hid God’s word in his heart so that he will not sin against God. Lets look at other verses in the bible

Ps 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide. KJV

Ps 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. KJV

Prov 2:10-11 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: KJV

Jer 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts. KJV

We can see there is definite fruit from hiding God’s word in our hearts. When we do this and meditate on them, it will grow with in us like a tree planted by the water, where the roots will grow strong, as in psalms 1.  Col 2:7 tells us the we need to be rooted in Him (Jesus). The only way this can happen is by the word of God. If we are left to our own devices and ignore the word of God, we will start to take on beliefs that are not biblical. We will conform to what we find right in our own eyes, and eventually even fight against the principles and truths of God’s word out of ignorance.

If you want to live a victorious life, living for God to the fullest. then I encourage you, pick up His, word and hide it in your heart. Do this daily as if you are feeding your body, for the word of God is the food for your soul. Do not starve it. For revival only comes in His word.

Wandering from God Psalms 119:10

Ps 119:10
With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
KJV

In the first half of this verse we see that the psalmist is saying he has sought God with all of his heart. In reflection to this lets apply that verse to our lives. Can we say that we are seeking God with all of our hearts? Is God our all in all. Do we say we seek him but in reality we seek our own well being. We feed our appetites for entertainment, friendship, lusts of worldly goods. Lust after God’s blessings in a way that will serve us? Do we seek out what is His way? Do we read the scriptures like a mirror? Seeking God is not just talking to Him in prayer. Seeking Him with our whole heart is seeking to be LIKE him in all our ways. This is why the Word of God is so important.

James 1:23-25
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
KJV

We need to use the word of God as a mirror in our lives. We see what the word says, and then look at ourselves by what the word of God teaches. When we see that our lives are contrary to the word, we then need to repent. Turn from our ways, turn from what seems right in our own eyes, and conform to the word of God. Repentance is not a bad word. It is giving up our ways for God’s ways. We seek out His word to show us how to be more like he is. In doing this we renew our mind and the word of God takes a hold of our lives and transforms us.

Matt 6:24
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
KJV

Deut 4:24
For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God
KJV

We can not serve two masters. We can only serve one. When we try to be in the world, and love the things of the world, and put God aside, we are not seeking God with our whole hearts. God is jealous for us. He wants all of us. Just like we would not want our wives or husbands flirting with others, or our children calling another mother or father, God is the same. He wants us to seek Him. He is our Father. He is our God. Yes sometimes we wander, but if we listen to the Holy Spirit who lives in us, he will always bring us back to Him. We must read and heed the word. If we stay in His word daily, and apply it to our lives, we will wander less and less. We will become more like Him.

So the first half is the key for the second half of the verse. If we pursue God, seek Him with our whole heart, and we refuse to share our affections with the world, then we will not wonder from Him. The difference between the psalmist and the new testament christian, would be the fact that we have the living God in us, as we are His temple. He is not far from us.

So this day I urge you, trust in Jesus Christ, pick up a bible and read it daily, applying the truths of the word to our lives. Not just being readers but doers also. There are many false gospels today, and people who twist scripture. If we love God we will follow His commandments, and if we are not, we will repent, and turn towards the commandments of God. Do not get me wrong. We do not do this to get saved, we do this out of our salvation, for we are saved if we trust in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us. Works will not save us. Our works come out of our salvation from Him. A good tree bears good fruit.

May God richly bless you in His wisdom and love. God bless.

Psalms 119:8

Ps 119:8
I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.
KJV

As Christians we should purpose in our hearts to keep God’s word. Not to be saved or earn any favour with God, but because we are saved and love Him. Jesus said John 14:15
” If ye love me, keep my commandments.”  KJV We can see that the word IF means a lot. If we love him we will keep His commandments. In other words because we love him, out of our love for him, our love cause a desire to keep His commandments. If we do not keep His commandments then what we are saying is we do not love Him. We can not continue to live in and or constantly break or ignore His commandments and say we love Him. If we do we lie and know not the truth.

We also have an assurance that God will not utterly forsake us. The new testament clearly states this.

Heb 13:5-6
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.KJV

As a child of God we know Jesus will never leave us. He is our God. He knows whats best for us, and loves us, and will guide us. At times we may feel alone but He is there. We just need to turn to Him. We have the Holy Spirit living in us. So in times that seem difficult, or times that are very hard, and there seems to be no hope, remember. God is with you and in you. He is first our God and Savior, then our Father, then our brother, and finally our friend. When he fulfills all those rolls in our life how can we be afraid what man can do to us. How can we be afraid of the enemy. We serve a living God, who cares more about us than we do. Go serve him this day, and talk to Him. Read his word study and live for Him alone. All else will come together in His timing and will. God bless.
